The Berber people in living the Moroccan high atlas are called “Chleuhs” (ⵉⵛⵍⵃⵉⵢⵏ) and the nomadic tents they use have a direct etymological link with their name, sign of how important they are in the Berber culture. Indeed, “Chleuh” comes from the Berber word “achluh” meaning “rush, esparto or palm tree braid”, which was the main material used for the weaving of Berber tents. The “Chleuh” or “Tachelhit” is the first Berber language in Morocco and the main one in the region. It is actually spoken by all the domain’s personnel who is 100% Berber.
